SCULPTURES

“Ausencias"

Is an ongoing project featuring sculptures and sculptural vases inspired by how emptiness and absences can also be forms of presence and building.

This project includes handmade pieces that reflect how absences create inflection points in the development and formation not only of objects but also of ourselves.

Often, the absence of people, places, or things defines who we are much more profoundly than what we possess. This lack partly defines us as individuals, it shapes us, and prepares us from what is not there, for a world that claims full presence, of continuous flows, leaving us yearning to find meaning and filling those absences with things that sometimes lack the capacity to redefine us.

My proposal is to observe these absences closely and use them as raw material to create solid versions of who we are.

The sculptures are made from high-temperature ceramic, handmade, fired at around 1300 °C, and then glazed or painted by hand.

PERFORMANCE

Red
Red is the colour of my skin
Red is the color of the path
From blood and ashes I was born
In this unsettling force, crimson sky land

Red is the color of my dreams
Red is the color of my past
Wounds become vermillion
and the sorrow, dyed my big brown eyes

Red is the color of my faith
Red is the color of my hate
Ruby dreams, of new places venture
Finding new rules, in no one’s affection

Red is the color of regrets
Red is the color of the pride
Flaming pact between two worlds
Inside this neglected human life

I might forget sometimes the path
I might regret sometimes the red
But I always will come back to you
To see it all
To feel It all
Reborn again
In red

Ananda de Sousa

Los Teques, 1994 I’m a Venezuelan multidisciplinary artist based in Madrid.

My work explores phenomena such as migration, the semiotics of color as a political-social and cultural element in Venezuela, cultural reappropriation, exodus and the forms of longing that emerge from these experiences. Through these themes, I seek to offer a window to the world, an opportunity to observe realities that, although they appear distant, invite us to establish deep emotional bonds that allow us to feel the distant as close as our own home.

Currently, my artistic practice focuses on the production of high-temperature ceramic sculptures, a discipline that allows me to materialize and transmit these reflections in objects that inhabit various spaces. Projects like Los Diablos and Ausencias are closely related to my personal journey as a migrant woman, channeling the tensions, absences and transformations that displacement entails.

My work is, in essence, a bridge between individual and collective experiences, an invitation to reflect on how art can connect us with others and make us participate in stories from other worlds.

Dear watchER

If you feel somehow inspired by my work, I encourage you to reach out regarding the availability of the pieces or any other inquiries you may have. I really appreciate your time spent viewing a piece of my world.

Some of the pieces donate part of their value to non-governmental organizations working in Venezuela and Palestine. Donations are made individually with the purchase of each piece.

Thank you for your time and heart.
